Martial Arts Food for Thoughts: Understanding the Present Moment

A former UFC (the Ultimate Fighting Championship) fighter, Nick Osipczak competed multiple times for the world’s most renowned fighting organization. Not only that, he was the first fighter to represent Tai Chi Ch’uan in MMA (Mixed Martial Arts). Since then, he has committed his time in an effort in achieving mastery in this ancient Chinese martial arts discipline.

In this post, he’s sharing some insights he had learned through his practice of Tai Chi. The following is an excerpt from The Middle Way Discourse that will help you gain a greater understanding of the present. May it inspire you to make the most out of each and every moment of your life.

The present contains both the past and the future.
It contains both the inevitable and the opportunity for choice.
The pre-determined is cause-and-effect at work.
Free will is our tool for creation.
Using our intent to manifest; the alchemy of thought into matter occurs.
What is happening right now is a result of our past choices.
Where this moment leads is determined by our current choices, in the here and now.

If we see things for how they are then we always have free will, free choice.
We shape the direction we move in by our reaction to the present moment.
If we are seeing the current moment clearly, for how it really is, we can choose wisely.
If we see it through filters, then we are interpreting it and we are deluded.
Then we are not reacting to what is, but to what we perceive as is.
