Additional weight categories into the KWU rules of the kumite discipline

On 04.12.2021 was held a meeting of the Executive Committee of Kyokushin World Union (KWU). At the meeting attended Shihan David Pickthall – President of International Federation of Karate (IFK), Shihan Antonio Pinero – President of Kyokushin World Federation (KWF), Shihan Hatsuo Royama – President of Kyoukushin-kan International (KI), Shihan Aleksandr Pichkunov – Secretary-General of KWU and Polina Sheremeteva – Secretary of KWU. The Executives decided to expand the rules of KWU for competitions and added additional weight categories to the rules:

In men KUMITE competition by weight categories, the following weight categories shall be provided for:
a. ≦60 kg;
b. ≦65 kg;
c. ≦70 kg;
d. ≦75 kg
e. ≦80 kg;
f. ≦85 kg;
g. ≦90 kg;
h. ≦95 kg;
k. >95 kg;
l. Absolute.

In women KUMITE competition by weight categories, the following weight categories shall be provided for:
a. ≦50 kg;
b. ≦55 kg;
c. ≦60 kg;
d. ≦65 kg;
e. ≦70 kg;
f. >70 kg;
g.Absolute.

In KUMITE competition among boys of 12-13 years (under 14 years), 14-15 years (under 16 years), junior boys of 16-17 years (under 18 years) by weight categories, the following weight categories shall be provided for:

If there are 6 or fewer participants in the weight category, fights for 3rd place will be held.

Competition organizers shall have the right to change (unite) weight categories, taking into account the number of competitors and the conditions of the competitions, with the sanction of the KWU Sports Commission. In the combined weight categories, after the second time, weighing is carried out. However, this statement should be notified clearly in the application form of the competition.
