Atanas Bozhilov set to defend his WAKO PRO title at SENSHI 5

One of Bulgaria’s top kickboxers Atanas Bozhilov will be making his first world kickboxing title defense this upcoming February at SENSHI 5. The event is scheduled to take place on February 22 in Varna, the place where all started a year ago.

Bozhilov will be facing Portugal’s Adolfo Barao. The two will be colliding for the WAKO PRO World title in the -71.8 kg category.

The bout will be conducted under the K-1 rules and is scheduled for 5 rounds.

Bulgaria’s national kickboxing team captain won the world WAKO PRO belt last April at SENSHI 2. The Bulgarian defeated Max Spodarenko from Belarus in what was the main event of the night.

The 33-year-old Burgas native will be making his 4th SENSHI appearance. He’s three for three up to this point with his last victory coming in October 2019 when he defeated another Belarusian fighter – Pavel Pravashinski in a fight conducted under the K-1 rules.

In 2018, Bozhilov became a world kickboxing champion for professionals, capturing the Kickboxing Grand Prix in the -72.5 kg category.

At the end of December 2019, Atanas received a special award during “The Golden Belt” ceremony in Sofia for popularising and developing combat sports in Bulgaria.

Portugal’s Adolf Barao is a 5-time Iberian kickboxing champion. He’s also a 6-time Portugal kickboxing champion and claimed a bronze medal at the WAKO European kickboxing K-1 championships in 2018.

Fighters from all around the world will take part in this elite fight night. This time three dutch kickboxing legends will be special guests of the event. Four-time K-1 World Heavyweight Grand Prix Winners Ernesto Hoost and Semmy Schilt, and the three-time K-1 World Heavyweight Grand Prix Champion Peter Aerts. They will be joined by the KWU General Secretary Shihan Alexand Pichkunov, who is a finalist in the K-1 Grand Prix Series from 2007 and 2008. The special guests are also expected to be refereeing to some of the bouts!
