Volkov: I’m coming for the heavyweight belt

Alexandr Volkov was born on October 24, 1988, under Scorpio’s sun sign to his parent Yevgeniy Volkov and was raised in Moscow, Russian SFSR, Soviet Union.

As per the sources, Alexandr had already earned his first karate belt when he was nine years old, which got him started in this field. He kas braun belt in Kyokushin karate now.

Furthermore, during his amateur days, Volkov has bagged the title of Ashihara Karate Champion of Moscow. Besides, he was also the three-time Pankration Champion of Moscow.

Alexandr Volkov is the newest guy to set his eyes on the biggest prize in UFC – the heavyweight crown.

The current situation in the heavyweight division is pretty messed up – the champion Stipe Miocici is scheduled to fight Francis Ngannou later this year and the winner will be facing the rookie Jon Jones.

That being said, Volkov sounds and most importantly, looks more than ready to challenge for the gold.

“I want to fight for the belt, for sure,” Volkov said in a post-fight interview. “But we’ll see. We’ll have some good fights in the future at heavyweight, so we’ll see how it finishes and we’ll see what will be my place. But for sure, I would like to take a title shot.

“I feel really excited and I feel great. It’s my time, and I’m coming for the belt.”

“I work a lot. I feel now I’m in really good shape, but for sure in the future, I’ll be feeling better and better. So this is not the end of my shape and my form,” Volkov said. “I will get better and I’m trying to make hard camps, working on all the skills that I didn’t do before, and I’ve become better.”

Heading into his bout against Alistair Overeem Saturday, Volkov was ranked #6 with Overeem at #5. At the bare minimum, Volkov will now be ranked within the top 5 after this victory.
