Atanas Bozhilov: SENSHI 26 Gladiators Will Be an Epic Gala!

Atanas Bozhilov is a renowned Bulgarian kickboxer with over 17 years of experience in martial arts. His professional career naturally followed from his amateur hobby—sports. Starting with amateur kickboxing and Muay Thai, he became the captain of the national team and then grew into the successful professional fighter we know today. SENSHI fans call him a legend with 21 victories under his belt. Bozhilov considers himself his toughest opponent, as overcoming your own weaknesses is the greatest challenge. Nevertheless, he finds inspiration in great fighters such as Giorgio Petrosyan.

Outside the ring, Atanas Bozhilov is just a regular person who enjoys watching football with friends, playing with his children, going to the beach, eating good food, and reading interesting books. Sports are his great passion—he even competes in half-marathons. Bozhilov demonstrated impressive endurance by placing 5th out of 250 participants in the 12 km mountain run “Emine Ultra” at the end of 2024. Here’s what else he shared with his fans ahead of stepping into the ring at SENSHI 26 Gladiators on May 17 at the Ancient Theatre in Plovdiv.

What inspired you to become a fighter?

My professional career was a logical continuation of my hobby—sports! I started training as an amateur 17 years ago, went through amateur kickboxing and Muay Thai until I became the professional fighter you know today.

How do you balance physical training and mental preparation?

Exceptional athletic achievements rarely result from physical training alone. Managing emotions, motivation, and concentration keeps you focused on one goal—to emerge victorious!

What has been your most memorable fight so far and why?

I can’t rank my fights because each one has been significant for me. But perhaps the most memorable opponent in my career is Max Spodarenko from Belarus.

What is your biggest achievement in your fighting career so far?

The first step on the ladder of success in my career was the WAKO PRO world title in 2019 (SENSHI 2), which I consider the most significant! Every subsequent achievement has been greater and has cemented my status as a successful fighter.

What advice would you give to aspiring fighters?

Be responsible for your goals, disciplined in life, and very consistent. With a lot of hard work, perseverance, and patience, anything is achievable.

What can fans expect from your fight at SENSHI 26 Gladiators?

I’m happy to be fighting again in front of the home crowd at the magnificent Ancient Theatre. SENSHI 26 will be an epic gala not to be missed! My goal in the ring is always the same—victory! I’ll deliver a strong match, I’m well-prepared and in shape. I hope to meet fans’ expectations.

Without revealing too much, do you have a strategy for this fight?

Every opponent’s individuality requires research and a precise strategy from my team. I believe I’ve analyzed the strengths of my Belgian opponent and I’m ready to neutralize them.

How important is fan support to you ahead of the SENSHI 26 gala in Plovdiv?

Fortunately, I’ve always enjoyed a large number of supporters, now even globally. I receive countless messages and feel their support before every fight. It’s a recognition that I’m truly good at what I do—and it’s incredibly valuable to me!
